As Expected, Plenty of Great French Eateries Around Lafayette

J’ai faim translates to “I’m hungry” in French. If this sounds like you and you want to try out a new French eatery, then keep reading. We have put together some of our favorites that you can try on your next meal outing. So here we go: these are the best French places to eat in Lafayette, Louisiana. 

La Creperie Bistro

La Creperie Bistro is a charming French eatery. Their menu items all pair perfectly with one of their special drinks, such as cider, wines, or champagne. For starters, you can try out the crostini with prosciutto, almonds, cranberries, and goat cheese, all drizzled with honey. The breakfast items include classic crepes, French toast, and Croque Madame served with ham or turkey, Gruyere cheese, bechamel sauce, and an egg. Find La Creperie Bistro at 1921 Kaliste Saloom Road Suite 116. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and again on Sunday. On Friday and Saturday, it’s open until 9 p.m. 

Cafe Vermilionville

Beautiful Cafe Vermilionville is a French eatery that has been on the National Register of Historic Places for years. Built circa 1835, this prestigious building provides a luxurious feel for your dining experience. The lunch appetizer menu features items such as crawfish beignets, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and alligator Dijon. Lunch entrees include chicken Madeira, which is a pan-seared chicken breast cooked with mushroom and Madeira cream, then served with grilled asparagus and potatoes. 

For dinner, you’ll enjoy appetizers such as Seared Foie Gras PB&J on brioche with cashew butter and pepper jelly. Dinner entrees include the Gulf Fish Acadien, which is the pan-seared fish of the day; rack of lamb served with tasso grit cake and sautéed Swiss chard; and a duck roulade studded with arugula and chèvre. The dessert menu is prepared in-house by a pastry chef and includes Bailey’s liquor torte and creme brûlée. Cafe Vermilionville is located at 1304 W. Pinhook Road. 

Prejean’s Restaurant

For a Cajun French experience check out Prejean’s, a rustic eatery with charm and truly delicious food. It serves breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. with items such as the famous Breaux Bridge Benedict,  a grilled butter biscuit with homemade boudin patties topped by two poached eggs and covered in crawfish etouffee. Appetizers include  Croc de Jacques, which are Louisiana alligator filets, and seafood stuffed mushrooms. Their signature dinners are all amazing, but some favorites are the Zydeco Fried Shrimp, Eggplant Pirogue Louis, and the Grand Isle Oysters. You can find Prejean’s at 3480 Northeast Evangeline Throughway. 

The French Press

The French Press is both a modern yet inviting restaurant that specializes in brunch and fine dining. It also has breakfast with such items as cream cheese and bananas stuffed French toast served with a berry-champagne compote. The French Press is located at 214 E. Vermillion St. and is open from 7 a.m. to  2 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
